This is a touching video about what it's like for a parent to watch a child grow up into adulthood. It's  a great way to get students talking about relationships and connections between family members.

ESL Video Discussion - Fear

This short film is for those who like a mystery and a bit scary for some, but it has great English listening practice at a slow pace. The narrator speaks very clearly and slowly, which keeps the story very interesting and understandable.



Pre-Discussion: Key Word - Phobia (Very Strong Fear of Something)

This a sweet story that shows the meaning of true love. It is narrated with a poem that should make it easier for English learners, and I highly recommend it.

This is a moving video dealing with loss and grief. The poem that is read could be a great listening activity for students.

ESL Video Discussion - Emotions and Communication


This is a cute short film about love and trying to communicate your feelings. It uses a bit of the southern accent and a song format, but it can be a great way to discuss cultural norms of communicating emotions.


Pre -Discussion:
  1. Do you like to communicate your feelings to others? Why or why not?
  2. What is the easiest emotion for you to express while communicating? Happiness? Sadness? Anger?
  3. Has there ever been a time in your life when you wish you would have shown your emotions better?

ESL Video Discussion - Technology and Privacy

This short film is a great discussion starter that asks students to think about the advancement of technology and the problems it could create with privacy and personal information. It uses science fiction and the future to help students think critically about where technological advances are headed.

Pre-Discussion (Before the video):

  1. Do you give away a lot of personal information when using social media?  For example, do you give your age, hometown, job, college, etc.?
  2. What is more important to you, security or privacy? If you had to choose one, what would you choose?
  3. Are you worried that our privacy is in danger from sites that collect our information?

Now watch the video: (WARNING, there is a four letter curse word (sh*t) in the video, so showing to young kids may not be preferred).
